Self-Help: The Three Rs of BeliefBusting and BeliefBuilding


I got the idea of the Three Rs from my coaching work with Dr. Joe Rubino (he is my personal and business coach). Joe's the author of the ebook The Self-Esteem System and he uses the Three Rs in his work creating what he calls Extreme Self-Esteem. With a bit of my own (can't help myself) twist and explain below, they're perfect for describing the process of shifting your beliefs. And of course, this process also works for changing unwanted negative thoughts in the moment as well as for more deeply ingrained beliefs.

The three Rs for shifting your limiting self-sabatoging beliefs are:

1. RECOGNIZE the belief.
2. RELEASE the belief.
3. REPLACE with a new and better belief.

1. RECOGNIZE the belief.
Whenever you are experiencing any of the FADWAS (Fear Anger Doubt Worry Anxiety Sadness), you know you have a self-limiting belief running— and the truth is, that belief has you. It is literally running you like the Operating System in a computer.

If you can (NOT required and truly ideal), trace that belief back in time to it's early childhood beginnings by bringing up a recent memory when the belief was present, then one that came before that, then another before that one, and then even earlier untill you arrive at the earliest memory you can recall. Working with the "original" (or as close to it as you can get) is powerful.


2. RELEASE the belief.
With that belief held in mind, give your Higher Self the following instruction:

"I am an infinitely powerful spiritual being directly connected to The Source of All Creation. This belief is not real. I made it up. It is a creation in my mind. I take back my energy from this creation for the highest good of myself and all concerned and release this belief. I let this belief go. As I do, I feel the energy of Creation flowing to me and through me, bringing me increased peace, power and joy."

Approved short cut:

"Let go let God."

Say that phrase as often as you need to release the belief. Say it again if it comes back again. (Negative thoughts and beliefs have a habit of doing that.)


3. REPLACE with a new and better belief.
Dr. Rubino uses the word "Recreate" here, which means: To impart fresh life to; refresh mentally or physically. Either word, Recreate or Replace, is fine because you are doing both. You accomplish this by imagineering a "be, do, have" vision of you and your new belief in action, like a scene from a movie. With consistency of focus and practice (repetition) you internalize that new ideal experience and the thoughts, emotions and physical feelings that accompany it until you have established your new belief.

The instruction to give your Higher Self for internalizing your new belief is:

"This is the way I intend and expect to create and experience my life from now on. Please make this happen in ways that are for the highest good of myself and all concerned, and have this experience overwrite any and all conflicting thoughts, feelings, images, memories, and beliefs to become my predominant reality."

As you speak those words, breathe the imagineered vision of your new belief in action into your heart. Believe (Be Love) it, and make it a part of you.

Two powerful ways to turbo-charge the Three Rs
Do it in writing. Take pen to paper and write down the belief, the thoughts you have about it, the emotions that come up and the physical feelings that are present. Writing brings your entire being into play engaging your intellectual, emotional, physical and spiritual selves as a team focusing on the inner game of shifting your belief.

The other power tool to use is EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) through each of the three steps, because it also makes the process physical and focuses on releasing your negative emotions and replacing them with positive ones. It would take an entire article to explain what to do. Instead, just Google "EFT" and you'll easily learn from the pictures, recordings and videos you find what to do.

Remember that it takes focus and consistency (28 days of daily practice) to make a new habit of thought… a belief. Just a little bit every day and you're on your way.

What your mind believes you will achieve
— always and in all ways.





BeliefBusters on the Radio

A few Saturdays ago, I did a program with Greg Norman on Universal 7 Radio about BeliefBusters. It got rave reviews (so I was told). Based on that I chose to make it this week's MasterMind Session and include the recording in this week's Report.

Universal 7 Radio, which Greg founded, intends to bring to radio a venue for programs that will inspire people to live a life infused with hope. The programs empower listeners and encourage them to take control of their destiny so they are able to manifest the life they desire. The vision of the network is to reach a global audience and join the positive wave of change that is presently occurring in radio. So, BeliefBusters was right up their alley. I trust (as in hope) this program is right up yours as well. You'll let me know, I know…

The Awesome Power of Beliefs

As Henry Ford's classic remark, "Whether you believe you can or believe you can't, you're right," illustrates, beliefs are the bottom line for all human beings. Our fundamental beliefs are just like the Operating System in our computers. They control and direct all of our hardware and software from the auto-pilot functioning of our vital organs, to the movements of our hands, fingers and feet to the complex thinking and the emotional feelings we experience every minute of every day of our waking and sleeping lives. Problem is, this Operating System is 20, 30, 40 or more years old… and it was made up in the mind of a child (of four, five or six…) and most likely, a disappointed or dissatisfied, discouraged and disheartened little "programmer" trying desperately to safely navigate the stormy seas of life and protect him or herself from pain.

I've learned in my work with BeliefBusters that beliefs come in two (and only two) flavors: Unwanted, self-sabotaging beliefs that limit us and even stop us from achieving what we desire, dream of and deserve… and empowering beliefs that serve and inspire us to success and accomplishment in all domains of life and work.
